Angel Di Maria, born in 15 February, 1988. He is a professional Argentine footballer. He plays for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint German and for his national team Argentina. He can play as a winger or as an attacking midfielder. After beginning his career at Rosario Central, he moved to Benfica in 2007 the European club. Three years later, Real Madrid bought him with 25 million euro. He played a major role in 2011-12 la liga season.
After winning the UEFA Champions Trophy, he joined Manchester United with a British record of £59.7 million but, did not stay there as he joined Paris Saint German a year later of a money around £44 million. He is a having a major number of Argentina fans up his sleeves as he caped for 80 times for Argentina since 2008, he got a goal which won them the gold at the Olympics 2008. Di Maria was one of the three children of Miguel and Diana, grew up in Perdriel. With the recommendation of doctor, he started to play football when he was three years old. He was very helpful as a person, helped his parents to work at a local coal yard along with his two sisters Vanesa and Evelyn. Because of his family’s income was low, his parents could not keep up with the dreams of Di Maria. Buying boots and other tools that requires for a player looked big in the eyes of his parents. 20% but, re-sold 10% to Gestifute. Simao, the captain of Benfica departed from the club for Atletico Madrid and his replacement was Di Maria. In October 2009, Benfica signed him for the next three years into his current deal. The expire date of the contract was 30 June 2015 and his release set fee was minimum of 40 million euro. Diego Maradona the head coach of Argentina did say that he is the future star for Argentina football. In 27 February 2010, he got his first hattrick against Leixoes in which his side won by 4-0. Real Madrid Season 2010-11 On 28 June 2010, Real Madrid posted on their website that they had come to terms with Benfica of the release of Di Maria. He signed for a five year contract for 25 million euro and 11 million euro for incentives.
On 7 July 2010, he arrived to Madrid directly from Buenos Aires and passed the medical test on 8 July 2010. On 4 August 2010, he made his debut match against Mexican club America which Real Madrid tasted 3-2 victory. On 22 August 2010, he got his first goal against Hercules in a friendly away match and won that match 1-3. In the last match of the pre-season he opened the score of 2-0 against Penarol for the Tropheo Santiago Bernabeu. On 29 August 2010, he made his league against Mallorca which ended in a 0-0 draw. Few days later, he assisted two goals to Karim Benzema and assisted one goal to Cristiano Ronaldo in which Real Madrid by a massive margin of 8-0 against Levante in December 22. He helped Real Madrid to be in quarter finals of Champions league round of 16 for the first time in seven years after beating Lyon in the second-leg by 3-0 and the last goal went to him.
On 5 April 2011, he scored the third and final goal in the first-leg against Tottenhum Hotspur. On 20 April, he was sent off in the 31st minute of the extra time against their rivals Barcelona in Copa Del Rey final. They did win the match against Barcelona by 1-0. Season 2011-12 During the start of season 2011-12, he had to pass a tough time as he was not able to keep up with pace of the league following the summer break. Di Maria’s early performance were mixed with lot of determination and showed sheer class.
With the defeat against Levante by 1-0, Di Maria had nothing in his way that match as he was outplayed and at the end he made a horror tackle on Juanfran. Manchester United Season 2014-15 On 26 August 2014, he made a five year deal with Man United for a transfer fee of £59.7 million which is the most expensive of all time. It was not over yet, he driven himself towards his best against Everton scoring a goal and assisting to Redemel Falcao to win by 2-1 on 5th October. On 29 November, Di Maria had to be substitute as he fell in injury in the 13th minute of the match against Hull City in the defeat of 3-0. His comeback match was against Yeovil Town in 4th January 2015 where he scored a late minute goal to see his side win by 2-0 in the third round of FA Cup. A week later, he found another new position under the coach Louis Van Gaan which was to be a forward player and lost the match home to Southampton by 1-0.
The role that he has been asked brought him nothing but sadnesses as his fine form slowly drained. Season 2016-17 In 2016-17 Champions league group stage game, he registered his first goal of the seasonagainst Basel in the 40th minute winning by 3-0 in 19 October 2016. On 19 November, he got his first ligue 1 goal of this season against FC Nantes at home winning by 2-0. On 14 February 2017, he scored a couple against Barcelona in Champions league round of 16 in 1st leg and won it by 4-0. On 1st of April, he scored in Paris Saint German’s 4-1 victory over Monaco in Coupe de la ligue final 2017.
International career Youth In 2007
Angel Di Maria was picked up for the Argentina Under-20 squad and he was capped in 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay. He was called in the side Argentina Under-20 World Cup 2007 squad and won the tournament with Di Maria getting three goals in the process. On 28 January 2008, he was included along with some of his under-20 teammates in Argentina for Beijing Olympics 2008. He scored an extra-time goal in the 105 minute getting a pass from Messi and winning the quarter final match against Netherlands by 2-1. On 23 August, he scored the only goal of the final match in the 57th minute against Nigeria to take his team to a delicious victory picking up second straight Olympic gold medal. Senior On 6 September 2008, he made his senior debut against Paraguay FIFA World Cup 2010 On 19 May 2010, Argentina manager Diego Maradona opted to go for Di Maria in his 23-man squad for this global event.
He played all the five games and started in four matches. His first ever international goal came against Canada in a friendly match where Argentina won it by 5-0. He helped his side to reach the quarter final of the world cup. Following the World Cup, on 11 August 2010 he scored in a friendly match against the Republic of Ireland in an away match winning by 0-1. Copa America 2011 He featured in three games of the tournament and scored a goal in 3-0 victory over Costa Rica FIFA World Cup 2014 He was included in the starting XI mostly and used every opportunities he got.
He scored the only goal against Switzerland in the round of 16 in 118th minute from a pass of Lionel Messi to take his side into the quarter finals. During the match against Belgium in the quarter final, he suffered a heavy injury found muscle tear in the thigh and lately announced that, that is the end of him for this World Cup and his side became the runners up in World Cup 2014 loosing to Germany by 1-0 in 113th minute. an away friendly match against Germany in which he returned scoring a goal and assisting three goals to see his side winning it by 2-4. Copa America 2015 On 28 May 2015, he was included in the Argentina squad for this tournament. On June 6, he was given the captaincy in the absence of Lionel Messi in a warm up match scoring two goals against Bolivia and winning by 5-0. A week later, their opening match was against Paraguay drawing the match 2-2 in which Di Maria and Messi scored. On 30 June, he helped Argentina reaching the final beating Paraguay 6-1, he scored couple and an assist to Aguero. He was caught on hamstring injury during the final match against Chile and were taken off.
His side eventually lost the match in penalty shootout. Copa America Centeranio On 6 June 2016, in Argentina’s opening match against the defending champions Chile, Di Maria with a payback assisting Ever Banega and with an opening goal winning against Chile 2-1. The goal he got has been dedicated to his grandmother who recently died. On June 10 against Panama, he assisted a goal to Nicoles Otamendi to open the score but could not enjoy as he had leave the field for another nasty injury, his side eventually won it by 5-0.
He could not be a part of this tournament and again lost to Chile in the finals in the penalty shootout. Style of play He is very speedy, a very talented and skillful player, he also has the ability to play in several roles like in attacking midfield where he can be left and right both the sides, he is normally a left-footed player. Recently, he has been developed as a centre midfielder and well done by Carlo Anchelotti in Real Madrid playing him in that role. He is agile, a good accelerator, nice dribbling skills and superb controller of the ball.
He can be so dangerous when it comes to one-on-one situations, he takes them on and rarely seen him fail. More impressive is his passing ability which worries the oppositions. Physically not quite solid but, working really hard to be fit enough to be in the starting XI. He can also play a role of defender whenever he wants and under Jose Mourinho he improved in that aspect.
He has the Italian passport because he has an Italian ancestry. His wife named Jorgelina from Argentina in 2011. They have a daughter named Mia, premature and survived after the treatment at the hospital of Madrid.
